Same-Sex Barnyard Wedding in Ghent (Ghent, NY)
As told by DAG IMAGES: Brigid and Michelle met in early December at a mostly empty bar near their respective offices on a Monday night. Even though they didn’t talk much that night, Brigid accepted an invitation from Michelle’s chatty friend to participate in Harry Potter trivia the next night. For the next couple of months, Brigid continued to hang out with Michelle and her friends in group settings, but the two did sense a sort of spark between them. When a group lunch unexpectedly became a one-on-one, Michelle finally asked Brigid out on a proper date. However, it wasn’t until a couple weeks later that the two would share their first kiss while dancing at Stonewall. The rest is history!
Their wedding day (in their words):
We were engaged in mid-May and knew we didn’t want to wait the typical year and a half, as we had spoken of starting a family sooner rather than later. Brigid’s favorite season is Autumn so we agreed that we would do our best to secure something ASAP! Brigid had worked upstate in the Hudson Valley when she first arrived in New York and had her heart set on a barn wedding. After a bit of research, we booked a few appointments in early June and fell in love with one of the first places we saw, The Barn at Liberty Farms. The space was a dream and they had an available date in early November–we were sold! Then, a lot of planning over the next few months as we sourced our vendors and planned every detail ourselves. Brigid plans events professionally and so we figured it couldn’t be that much more complicated! Well hindsight is 20/20, and it was a bit more work than the typical event, but we were so pleased with the way everything turned out. We were lucky to be married by a friend and built our ceremony personally to reflect each other and set the mood for the day. Brigid’s friend sang a lovely Jewish song and a family friend who is an actress did a beautiful reading of a passage from The Velveteen Rabbit. The ceremony ended with personal vows by the couple. Most importantly, we had our friends and family from near and far there to support us and share in such an important day.
