Butterfly Inspired Glam Winter Wedding (CA)
Matt and Ashley met on OkCupid and after dating, got engaged the day after Thanksgiving in 2015. For their 2016 NYE nuptials, they wanted to keep the traditional New Years Eve colors (black, cream, and gold) while adding in elegant and unexpected pops of decor. Sequined linens were an absolute must for NYE. However, in order to keep the wedding feeling sophisticated and glamorous, they made the decision to keep the sequined linens to cocktail, welcome and the cake tables. Their florist, Nancy Liu Chin, came up with the idea of integrating butterflies into the overall decor and the couple ran with the theme. There were touches of butterflies everywhere, the escort cards, in certain bridesmaid’s bouquets, the seating chart, signage and even on menus. The butterfly details added a fun, romantic and whimsical element to the wedding.
Additionally, Matt and Ashley’s wedding was filled with various intimate details and personal touches.
For example, while having a memorial table is a fantastic and obvious way to honor lost loved ones, this couple wanted to take it a step further. Matt’s grandfather was an artist and while going through some of his work, the couple came across a sketch of a dancing man and woman, which they loved. They ended up using a modified version of the sketch on the invitations.
The couple also decided to feature Matt’s family’s olive oil. It was the perfect way to share a piece of his family with the bride’s family (and all our other guests). People loved the olive oil and balsamic alternative to butter, it was so unexpected!
Lastly, Ashley wanted to figure out a way to honor the African American tradition of jumping the broom, without actually jumping over a broom. Ashley decided the best way to do this would be to put a broom on display on the welcome table. Ashley’s aunt was kind enough to decorate the broom with a satin ivory ribbon and my florist added phalaenopsis orchids. The broom turned out perfect.
